1st April

Worked on starting the rough of the shot 06 (old lady drinking tea)

I think its timed out alright and it will look great with being slow and wobbly

I enlarged her at the end as it is supposed to be a close up.

Tirissala is doing the background for this currently.

Added my background to the animatic and had a group meeting today.I also divided up the shots so everyone has a full shot to do and a background.

Added some more touches to the background but my group thinks it is done now so I'll move on.

Also went to life drawing,The gestures were not that great but once I warmed up I had some decent attempts at looking properly at the figure.

Sometimes looking the the shades and shapes of a person,I imagine them not a person so I don't fill in the gaps with what I think body parts look like in my head.

30th March

(Trying not to say "Today I did this"..Oh well)

Today I did a background of the exterior ,it might need another colour and some more touching up.

I also compiled the latest animatic and started on the shot list.

I'm pretty on schedule and I would start animating but the concepts are abit behind so I can't quite yet.

The animatic is basically done aside from being on model.

We really need the characters done soon.

27th March

After the late night last night I fixed up more story boarding with Tirissala.

Heres the animatic so far (Missing one shot as Tirissala is currently working on it.)

I need to sort some timing out as some shots seem a little slow to me.

The seventh shot has an error as the swing changes direction from tirissalas storyboarding to mine,I will fix this today.

Version 2:

swapped the sons side for shot 07,though some scythes swap sides but its not that important.

Version 3:

Edited the beginning as Andrew advised to start with a wider shot.this would emphasize that she is alone.

Also starting the background I need to do.

25th March

Working on rewriting the script and storyboard today, just trying to solidify every we need so we don't need to make any more changes.

Script:

FADE IN:
EXT. OLD LADY’S HOME - SUNSET
Establishing shot of an old country house, surrounded by trees.
INT. OLD LADY’S HOME - SUNSET
A series of establishing shots of the rooms and ornaments of the house. Settles in a room with large windows.
The sunset causes the shadows to grow longer and the Grim Reaper and his son appear from them. Father and son look across the room and see an old lady, reading in an armchair. She cannot see them.
The father pushes the son towards her, prompting his son to collect her soul.
The son closes his eyes tightly and takes a swing with his little scythe. It flows through the chair missing her as the lady stands up, oblivious.
She stands at the window, looking out to the sunset.
The father insists with more pressure that the son take her soul.
The son hesitantly walks towards the lady.
He tugs on her dress and she turns to look at him.
The son steps back conflicted as to what he should do.
The old lady reaches out her hand to him with a soft smile.
They walk into the light of the window together.
INT. OLD LADY'S HOME - NIGHT
Old lady is slumped against the wall near the window.
FADE OUT
THE END

Storyboard:

I was editing the ending to match our script,I've roughed out most of it now.

This starts right after the father pressures the son again.
The lady is now by the window out of harms way

the son walks up to her hesitantly

he taps/tugs on her shoulder.

she turns to him

conflicted, the son takes a step back.

she reachs out to him with a smile.

they walk into the sunset and it glows bright

fades to just the sun.

the sun sets to black

fades in to the lady slumped up against the wall

it cuts to credits.

24th March

We tried to sort the story out more today.

Problems industry pointed out:
- finding a way to animate it.  (style guide)

- emotional journey  (story)  (Acceptance)

- why elderly lady leaves room (Change to standing at windows, grim follows)  (Old lady turns and looks at son,she extends hand with smile,
they walk off into the sunset through the window into the light.cuts to nights and her hand drops by window)

- why the son isnt a skull   (concepts)
table to window, sits down, walks into sunset.

Tips:
camera to show emotion.
colour

Plot:

Exterior - Sunset

-Establishing house

Interior - Sunset

-sunset casts shadows which grim and son rise from. (old lady is drinking tea)

-Grim reaper pressures son to kill her.

-son walks upto her chair and swings hesitantly with eyes closed. (old lady stands up and moves, oblivious to whats going on)

-scythe flows through the chair. (old lady is standing at window looking out to sunset)

-Grim reaper yet again pushes son towards her pressuring him. (biffs scythe)

-he tugs on the old ladies dress hesitantly

-she smiles and reaches out her hand to him and they walk into the sunset into light.

Interior - Night

-cuts to shot of lower body and hand slumped against window

Quick storyboard changes needed for the story to get an idea of what the ending might look like.

He drops the scythe as he gives up on doing things his fathers way.

He hesitantly approachs the old lady staring out to the window

he tugs on her dress

she turns back to look at him

he backs away slowly

she reaches out to him and smiles

they walk into the light

night scene  of her slumped up against the wall

there are other minor changes as its all set in 1 room now  and the sunset creates the shadows which the grim and son rise from.
